Matt provides financial and strategic risk management support to the insurance and healthcare industries. He assists various entities, including insurance companies, health plans, hospital systems, employers, and professional associations / trusts. Matt’s core area of expertise is the group and individual commercial health insurance markets, with a specific focus on issues related to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA). Matt helps clients in the commercial market with pricing and filing efforts, health care reform analyses, financial and strategic risk management, underwriting, product development, provider contract negotiations, and other actuarial projections. He assists with the pricing and filing of individual and small group ACA products since 2015 in multiple states. His insurance experience also includes risk adjustment optimization, valuation of reserves, claims auditing, large group rate filing assistance, and annual actuarial certifications. Matt assisted in the design and creation of projection models supporting the Milliman Pandemic Modeling Suite, which helped quantify the potential range of financial effects on patients, payers, and providers resulting from COVID-19. Matt is also a core member of the commercial market research segment within his practice, spearheading the creation and ongoing development of several ACA market intelligence tools. These tools help to identify ACA market strategic opportunities by leveraging competitive intelligence derived from CMS public use files, statutory filings, and Milliman’s proprietary data sources.
